London Travel Deals. Travel Tips and Guides

August 4th, 2010 -- Posted in london travel deals | No Comments »

As you would no doubt be aware, there are loads of travel tips and guides to London. London Travel Deals have a load more for you. While most of them do a good job they do however have their shortcomings. One of these is that most of them are written by people that have been to the city a few times, know the tourist areas and are wannabe experts. Then on the other hand there are the tips and guides that are written by life long Londoners that know everything there is to know about their city of London, but in reality they have never been a tourist in their own town. So, we’re here to tell you all the fabulous things there are to see in this town, but not just from a Londoners perspective but also from a foreigner’s perspective to make it easier for the tourist to understand.

Many foreigners/tourists quickly fall in love with London, the vibrancy, the West End shows and of course the marvelous shopping. But that’s not the end of it because there is so… much history in these streets of London. You can walk around these history filled streets of London and you can see and feel it all happening again in front of you. Hopefully, this will be especially true for people on their first visit to London.

Whatever the purpose of your journey to London, we hope that you find the information we have put together to be useful, enjoyable and maybe entertaining. If you have enjoyed this site and found it useful, then we welcome your comments. Until then, enjoy our London Travel Deals Tips and Guide to London.

Something that may be a surprise to many foreigners to London is that London is a very safe city in comparison to so many major cities around the world. But don’t be lulled into a false sense of security, it is still a large city and therefore it is important to always have your wits about you no matter where you go or who you meet.

Here are a few things that if followed should increase your safety levels while in London.

Don’t look and act like a Tourist: There is nothing wrong tourists. But tourists standout like beacons on a hill. So keep in mind that tourists are particularly attractive to thieves particularly the pickpocket kind. Keeping that in mind while on the streets of London is very important. This means not opening a map on a street corner, not giving your camera to a stranger to take a photo of yourself and other things that will draw attention to yourself including gordy tourist type clothing. Just look like normal Londoners.

Walk, Don’t walk Signs: Watch the walk and don’t walk signs and take them as fact. So many people don’t pay attention to them and end up regretting it. London is a busy city with far too much traffic for the roads. This often means that it seems that cars would rather hit you than be late. Also remember that because they drive on the left side of the road. So, if your coming from North America or Asia, they will be coming at you from the opposite direction.  Therefore, be very careful about the crazy traffic on London streets.

Be careful at ATM machines: In recent times there has been a scam going a round where ATM’s have had a false face placed on the front of the machine that scans your card as you insert it into the slot. The thieves then read your card and your pin number and then us it to buy stuff on your account. So, check the machine out thoroughly before you use it. Also, if you are on your own just be aware of people around you and make sure you put your card away safely. If you are traveling with another person it is a good idea to have them shield you when you type in your pin number. There have been all types of scams in recent times, so it best to keep your head up and mind alert when using the ATM.

Oxford Street and Pickpockets: Oxford Street is one of the most popular shopping stripes in the world. Unfortunately it is also one of the favourite haunt for pickpockets. It is certainly not the only area of London where there are pickpockets but it is one of the most prevalent. Take note at all times where your bag is on your body. If you have to have a bag on your back make sure every zipper is zipped (locked if possible) and that there isn’t anything of any huge importance in the outside pockets. Also, don’t carry a wallet of purse in an outside coat or trouser pocket, its too easy for the pickpockets.

Black Cabs and Mini Cabs: In London there are two kinds of cabs. The most notable are the famous London black cabs and the others are minicabs. Mini cabs are unlicensed taxis that work through an agency. The primary attraction of a minicab is that they can be much cheaper. However, they are not licensed, unlike black cabs, and are not required to pass ‘the knowledge’ test which proves they know their way around the city. You therefore can’t rely on them to know where to take. Black cabs run on a meter but there should be a clearly visible fare structure in the cab. If you do take a minicab, make sure you get a fixed price to your destination before you get into the cab. Minicabs are not allowed to solicit business. So, you have to actively call them or go to their office to order the cab. Black cabs, of course, can roam the city streets looking for business. Often in the early hours rouge minicabs will go out looking for business particularly form unassuming foreign tourists. Do not get in one of these cabs regardless of how good a deal it sounds or how desperate you are.

We at London Travel Deals, hope you take note of these security tips while on your holiday in London.  Don’t forget that there are great deals to be had by holidaying in London, so check out our deals before you go.

Exploring London with London Travel Deals

August 4th, 2010 -- Posted in london travel deals | No Comments »

London is widely renowned as being one of the most important cities in the financial and political world. London is also home to the oldest underground rail system in the world which is over one hundred and forty years old. London is also the capital city of the United Kingdom and is one of the largest cities in Europe. In fact, London is over 600 square miles in total area.

Today there are over 7 million people living in the city of London. They come from many varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds and speak a wide variety of languages and dialects. London is located in the south of England which tends to get warmer weather than up in the North of Scotland. The city of London really does have something to offer everyone whether you are seeking work or you just want to enjoy some of the varied attractions.

As mentioned, London has the underground rail system called the tube, which can take you to almost any destination in and around the city within just a few minutes. This is how the majority of people travel in London as the road traffic can be vary gridlocked on most days. Prices on the tube are very reasonable and will save you a lot of time and money as an alternative to travelling by road.

Surprisingly, London has a lot of green areas around the city and it is not all residential and commercial buildings. Hyde Park and Regents Park are two of the largest open space areas in the city and can make a great setting for a picnic or simply just a way to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. Of course you couldn’t visit London without taking a ride in one of the many hundreds of London Taxis, where the taxi driver would normally tell you of someone famous that they had in their taxi the night before. Taxi driver know the quickest routes around the city and where to avoid at peak times, this is quite often the quickest way of travelling to your destination. If you have a bit more time to spare, then a scenic trip on one of the famous London double-decker buses can be a great way to get in some sightseeing around the city.

I want to visit Unst, probably traveling by plane. I live in London. Do you have any ideas of the best deals?

September 3rd, 2010 -- Posted in london travel deals | 1 Comment »

Only 1 airline serves Unst, that’s Loganair, so you have no choice for the last leg. They operate from Aberdeen. More options to Aberdeen though, I suggest http://www.expedia.co.uk Treat it as two separate flights for the best deal.

PLEASE VERIFY THIS INFO FOR ME. I WANT TO KNOW IF THIS IS FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!?

September 2nd, 2010 -- Posted in travel deals to london | 2 Comments »

HELLO,
How are you?
I have seen your resume(CV),you are welcome to my home here in the UK, but what i really need is someone who can take care of kids.Actually I need two nannies.Truly,I need a foreign Nanny either male or female .I knew that there are a lot of Nannies in UK here but is just that i need an Nanny from outside that is caring, loving, motherly care and well determined that can take good care of my kids for me .Hopefully you will be my kid’s Nanny and do according to your words.I don’t play with my kids at all because they are the apples of my eyes,i worked because of them and i can pay so much on them. My advice to you is that you should be involved in the expenses to reach here in United Kingdom and i shall be responsible for refund for every expenses made by you immediately you get here. Why I said so is that i have paid for 2 Nannies in the past months which they did not come to my home but went to somewhere else and that is why I vowed that any Nannies that i will employ, will be involved in the expenses, just for me to be sure that you will not do like the past Nannies and yo u are ready to work with my family here in UK because I don’t want someone who don’t care about kids because i cherish my kids alot.I will give you assistance in the expenses. The total cost of securing papers(UK VISA,WORK PERMIT,UK IDENTIFICATION NUMBER) is 2650 Pounds Sterling. So I will shoulder 2450 Pounds while you will shoulder 200 Pounds Sterling.Hope you are ok with this.
I will be responsible for your air ticket.
The reasons why I wanted you shouldering that amount is:
:D ue to the signed agreement I have with the British consulate office due to what the other nannies I shouldered every expenses for did to me by going to another direction….I thought the travel agency had deals with them.so I charged the matter to the British consulate office here in London but later discovered that the travel agency never had deals with them.
At this point I was made to sign an agreement that any nanny I will employ as a foreigner will be involved in the expenses but will be refunded back his or her money immediately him or her arrives UK here in London.
Hope you are ok with this.
The British consulate office told me they will compensate me by approving visa and papers to any application of nanny in respect of my file to their office .
So you have 100 % assurance of coming over to work for me in London.
Don’t worry about the United Kingdom,it’s a nice place to stay and which I hope you will enjoy staying here with my family and you will have the access to internet In fact i have a
personal PC at home for myself but my kids usually play games on their own PC, i will get you a computer to start using for your own use..All expenses made by you will be refunded immediately you get here.
The travel agency will get visa for you and will be directly responsible for all the documentations, including Visa, Working permit, and the verifications of your identity in
collaboration with the Home office. Because of the current terrorism in the United Kingdom, your documents will be properly verified by the home office.
They will apply for visa on your behalf in the UK Home Office here in United Kingdom and when the visa is ready the UK Embassy in your country, will call on you,so that they can
endorse the visa on your original passport.Just follow any instructions i give you because that will make things a reality.
The duties I’m looking for are as follows:
1-Supervise breakfast with the children in the morning and get them off to school
(Collect my 2KIDS of ages 4yrs(daughter/Tracy) and 5yrs(son/Mikel) old from school at 3.40pm.)
2-Some Housework/washing/ironing as required on a daily basis
3-Supervise homework, music practice and fun activities or take children to after school activities.
4-Prepare and cook an evening meal for everyone at about 6.30-6.45 Up to two evenings child minding per week.
5-Weekends and Bank holidays would be free that there will not be much duties to carry out.
6-Occasional weekend work would be offered by prior negotiation.
I normally leave for work at 7.00am and get back at around 6.30pm although some flexibility is useful.
I am offering a live in position with full board (we eat well in this house!)
1-Separate Toilet and Bathroom.
2-TV,different type of video machines.
3-Personal computer already Internet on.
e.t.c for you and i will make sure everything goes on well with you and with my kids.
If you don’t mind I can arrange for you any language school and school if you wish.
My offer for you for a week is 950 pounds sterling and i will provide your accommodation e.t.c.
Best regards,
Francombe Jordan
